...Ain’t Always Gonna Be Gold

Skincare advice and routines seem to be EVERYWHERE! But, are we doing it for the right reasons? We need to make sure we’re not rushing in and accidentally falling on the hands of a shady product.

Skin is our largest organ, and it’s essential to our general health. Taking care of your skin means your skin is going to take care of you. It is totally worth the time and energy to take care of your skin on a daily basis, but keeping in mind it’s real health benefits goes a long way!

Not everything is about the looks

Of course, many people take good care of their skin because they want to look good, no shame in that! But there’s so much more.

  • Our skin cells are shed throughout the day; it’s a natural process. An effective skincare routine can help prevent acne, treat wrinkles, and keep your skin looking amazing.
  • As we age, our skin cells turn over more slowly. Using good quality skincare products can help remove dead cells allowing our body to replace them with new ones faster. That means less work for your body!
  • Preventing skin problems, or any issues for that matter, is far easier and cheaper than trying to resolve issues later on in the future.
  • If your skin looks better, you will naturally feel better about yourself. Feeling confident and happy with how you look will give you the self ownership you need to tackle other life challenges.

Understanding what works for you

Not all skin or bodies are created equal. Some people might be able to wash their face twice a day and move on without any other skincare needs. While some of us need an entire routine to look as good as we do, and that’s OK! But you don’t need anything fancy as long as you’re making sure your basics are well covered:

  • Cleanser: It is essential to wash your face gently using a cleaner designed for your face. If your skin is dry, make sure you choose an alcohol-free product because alcohol will dry it out even more. If your skin is more on the oily side, you’ll want something that is oil-free. Once you’re done, rinse your face using warm water.
  • Toner: After you wash your face, it’s good to use toner. Toners naturally restore the vital nutrient our skin needs. They will also smooth and calm our skin while revitalizing it!
  • Moisturizer: Whether your skin is oily or dry, it’s important to use a good moisturizer to help keep your skin smooth. If you do have oily skin, choose an oil-free moisturizer. The wind and sun can dry our skin out, which is why it’s vital to add moisturizer to your daily routine.
  • Sunscreen: Speaking of the sun, even if you moisturize, you’ll need protection from the UV rays. Choose a sunscreen that provides broad-spectrum protection with an SPF of at least 30. Protecting your skin is the best way to ensure it remains healthy.
  • Exfoliator: Exfoliating your skin is optional, but it’s not a bad idea. If you do use an exfoliator, it should be utilized after a cleanser and before the moisturizer. Also, you should only use exfoliants one or two times a week rather than daily.

Focusing on Quality VS Flashiness

Unfortunately, there is a lot of junk on the skincare market. You’ll want to avoid products containing chemical-filled ingredients, for sure. It’s always good to know what you’re putting into and on your body. Here are some things to look for.

  • Ingredients: Quality ingredients for your skin are similar to the benefits provided by eating healthy food. Making sure the ingredients you’re using on your skin are safe and of good quality will give maximum results and increase the benefits.
  • Protection: This circles back to the ingredients found in your products. Stick with products that provide environmental damage from pollutants and weather. Some products claim you’ll receive protection from the sun. Still, when you check the list, you might not find anything that actually provides those benefits.
  • Anti-Aging Battle: Remember those chemical fillers we mentioned? Some of those can do more harm than good when it comes to aging. Using quality products that are true to their word will give you the ultimate defense and revitalization of your skin needs.
  • Get Your Money’s Worth: Don’t throw your money down the drain. Stick with what’s been proven effective and avoid wasting money on products that claim they’re doing something they’re not.

Using products that are of poor quality will not only provide the opposite results we’ve listed above, but you’ll end up wasting your money and see little to no results.

Your skin is already beautiful, because you are living in it, but it’s essential to put a bit more attention on what we’re actually buying. Sometimes the real prize comes from the health benefits we receive.
