Fingers Are A Girl’s Best Friend

Our hands are hard at work all day long! After all, they do most of the dirty work when it comes to chores. Dishes, laundry, gardening, and whatever else your hands are subjected to on a daily basis. We can’t forget to take the weather conditions into account. Needless to say, our hands and fingers need all the TLC they can get. After all, fingers are a girl's best friend. Who wants to show off their new rings or jewelry with dry, flakey skin or torn cuticles?

10 TLC Beauty Tips For Your Fingers & Hands

  1. Moisturize: You’ll want a good quality moisturizer for your hands. Apply the moisturizer of choice at least three times a day after you’ve washed them. During the summer you’ll want to use a non-greasy, light moisturizer, and during the winter go for something heavy like body butter. The colder months tend to dry out the skin!
  2. Pamper Those Digits: Get a manicure at least once every month. You don’t have to go to a salon, you can DIY if you choose. A manicure cleans your hands and provides an exfoliating massage. You’ll also get some essential nourishment!
  3. Washing Your Hands: Of course, washing your hands is a common practice that takes place many times a day. When you wash your hands, make sure to use lukewarm water all throughout the year. Water that is too hot or cold can damage your skin. Also, avoid using dish liquid because it can be harsh on our skin leaving it dried out!
  4. Scrub-A-Dub: Using a good quality exfoliating agent, scrub your hands at least once every week. This helps get rid of old dead skin trying to hang around. You can make a homemade hand scrub using a teaspoon of olive oil and fine sugar. Mix it with the juice of half a lime. Aaaaaayou can skip the oil if you prefer.
  5. Massage Those Digits: Spend at least five minutes a night massaging your hands using a moisturizer. This helps your hands and fingers feel great, but also allows the moisturizer to soak in! If your hands are very rough, you can mix your moisturizer with a dab of Vaseline. This will moisturize your hands and adds a layer of protection throughout the night.
  6. Protection: Glove up with some rubber gloves for protection. Washing dishes, gardening, and any chore that uses cleaners or chemicals can be tough on our skin. Protection is the best defense.
  7. Trimming & Filing Your Nails: Even if you prefer long fingernails, it’s a good practice to trim them at least once every two weeks. Whenever you file your nails, be sure to file in one direction. Using a seesaw method can separate the layers of your nails, and if water gets in between those layers, it can cause the nails to peel.
  8. Add Some Floss: If you enjoy painting your nails, it’s essential that you use a base coat to avoid staining your nails. A base coat will also help the nail polish last longer!
  9. Cuticle Care: Again, protection is the best defense. Cuticle cream or oil can help prevent your cuticles from getting dry or rough. A few drops of glycerine on your hands before bed will work. Simply add the cream or glycerine at least twice a week. Leave it on overnight and then wash it off with lukewarm water in the morning.
  10. Diet: We are what we eat! For strong health nails, you’ll want to make sure you’re getting enough of vitamins B and E, as well as healthy protein.
