How To Transition Your Skin Care Routine From Summer To Fall

Just like we trade our summer flip-flops in for autumn boots, we should be swapping out our skincare routine and products as well. We all have our favorite summer routines, but she can't stay forever, and fall's already knocking on the door!

Exfoliate

The summer sun and heat are a blessing, but they can cause some damage to our skin. One of the issues is that dead cells build up on our skin. Exfoliating from head to toe will help remove the dry skin of summer, bringing a fresh complexion. We prefer a gentle exfoliation method to avoid irritation or stripping our skin of its natural moisture.

The further into fall we get, the more we can cut back on how often we exfoliate. We'll need to ensure our skin is safe from the cold winds.

Moisturizing

Seasonally changing up heavier moisturizers is essential. Maybe use some vitamin C complexes and good eye cream for dry puffiness. If you notice a lot of dryness, try using a slightly creamier or thicker moisturizer to give your skin the added boost it needs. Remember, the blazing summer has dried you out, so you'll need a little extra TLC.

Our skin can build up a tolerance to products we use for extended periods. Take note of what works best for you and what doesn't. It's also beneficial to keep track of the products you use to help log any negative or positive reactions.

SPF Protection

We should protect our skin all year long, not only during the summer at the beach. Sun damage can happen even if it's cloudy. I know, crazy, right? An SPF 15 should be sufficient to protect you from harmful rays.

Keep in mind that the temperature of the air outside is going to start getting colder. The cold wind can be just as equally damaging as the bright sunshine on a summer's day.

Lotion

With the summer's humidity gone, our skin can get itchy and dry because there's less moisture in the air. Adding a nice gentle body lotion can help keep you smooth and hydrated!

For those of you with extra-sensitive skin, dermatologists recommend using collagen, elastin, or aloe vera. People with super sensitive skin often feel a stinging or burning sensation as the season transitions.

If it's breezy and cool out, use a scarf to cover your cheek and chin. Wind-burn is no joke! It is painful, and it can scar if you don't monitor and care for it properly. Thick moisturizer is a blessing in the colder months, we promise!

Your skincare routine speaks volumes about your skin's health. Try and avoid chemicals in your products because the damage they cause is long-term. Healthy skin is happy skin, so stay hydrated and nurture it likes a newborn baby!
